Who is Mike Nathan?

Mike Nathan, MBA

a U.S. Navy veteran turned serial entrepreneur, we’re on a mission to help founders scale fast — and with intention.

With over two decades of entrepreneurial experience, Mike Nathan is a distinguished serial entrepreneur, investor, and business leader celebrated for turning innovative ideas into thriving enterprises. Currently, he serves as the CEO and Co-founder of Mendota Health, a nurse practitioner-led mobile wound care clinic that is revolutionizing how specialized care is delivered.

Mike’s journey began with 4.5 years of service in the U.S. Navy, where he was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan; Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; and, after 9/11, Naples, Italy. As a Boatswain’s Mate Second Class (BM2) with a Surface Warfare (SW) qualification and a search and rescue swimmer (SAR), he developed the discipline, resilience, and leadership skills that have defined his entrepreneurial success. He later enhanced his expertise by earning an MBA from Concordia University – St. Paul, equipping him with advanced business acumen that complements his real-world experience.

Mike has founded or co-founded 18 companies, including Impero Ventures, an LLC through which he runs consulting business activities, emphasizing strategy and execution for startups. Of these ventures, 9 have achieved 7-figure revenues, and 3 have surpassed 8 figures, showcasing his ability to create impactful, scalable businesses.

His ventures span healthcare, technology, consumer goods, and more, including Big Stone Capital Group and Exit 156, two investment funds that fuel innovation and entrepreneurship. Beyond managing his own funds, Mike has helped raise tens of millions of dollars in investments for startups over the years, empowering countless founders to achieve their visions. Big Stone Capital drives transformative investments, while Exit 156 supports startups in healthcare and technology, with a focus on giving back to the community and St. John’s University, Mike’s alma mater.

Beyond founding businesses, Mike has excelled as an advisor and board member. Of the 10 board and advisory roles he has held, 6 ventures have reached 7-figure revenues under his strategic guidance. Notable contributions include Brother Justus Whiskey Co., NightWare, Bilt Ventures, and Vail Scientific, a revolutionary company poised to save millions of lives annually through early detection of sepsis. His insights and leadership have driven significant growth and innovation in these ventures. He also serves on the Augsburg University Business Advisory Council, lending his expertise to shape the next generation of business leaders.  At St. John’s University, Mike serves on the Private Investment Fund (PIF) which makes direct investments on behalf of the university.

Recognized for his achievements, Mike was named one of Twin Cities Business Magazine’s Top 100 Business People to Watch in 2025, a testament to his leadership and influence in the business community.

What distinguishes Mike is his “track record of results”—a tangible testament to his expertise as a true serial entrepreneur and investor. Unlike many who claim the title, Mike’s measurable accomplishments solidify his reputation as the go-to expert for launching, scaling, and advising companies.

At the heart of Mike’s journey is his core belief that we are here to do good things for other people and the community. He firmly believes that a well-intentioned company, powered by a small group of committed, motivated, and empowered individuals, can change the world. To Mike, a startup company represents the ultimate vehicle for making meaningful and sustainable impact, and he is dedicated to proving this belief every day through his work.

Founder Testimonials

“YourPath was literally born in Mike Nathan’s barn. During the uncertainty of COVID, my co-founders and I—first-time founders—were tossing around ideas, cautiously optimistic but unsure of our next move. Mike listened, then said something I’ll never forget: 'Start f*cking seeing patients. What are you waiting for?' That moment lit the spark. We started, and everything changed. Within months, we were on UnitedHealth Group’s radar and accepted into their elite startup accelerator. Five years later, we’re thriving—but it all started with Mike’s push. Mike has a rare blend of vision and urgency. He doesn’t just believe in entrepreneurs—he activates them. YourPath owes much of its momentum to those early conversations in Mendota Heights and to Mike’s relentless belief that action beats hesitation every time.”

“In the early days of TurnSignl, when we were just shaping the idea and building the foundation, Mike Nathan was right there—co-founding, guiding, challenging, and pushing us to turn vision into reality. He didn’t just offer advice—he helped us execute on the ‘gotta haves’ that make or break a startup. As a first-time founder, I had a steep learning curve, but I had the privilege of learning from one of the best. Mike helped me grow into a more focused, confident, and effective leader. His fingerprints are all over TurnSignl—from our early strategy to the way we show up in the community today. Beyond the business, Mike’s mentorship elevated my game entirely. He believed in me from day one, and that belief helped fuel not only the company, but my own development as a CEO and community voice. Every founder should be lucky enough to have a Mike Nathan on their team.”

“Mike Nathan has a rare gift—not just for building companies, but for sharpening founders. He’s been in my corner from the early days of Kaleidoscope and was the first to back Bilt Ventures. His belief never comes quietly—it comes with questions, challenge, and fierce loyalty. Mike has helped shape some of my best thinking by pushing me exactly when I needed it and standing with me when things got heavy. He’s not just a board member—he’s a catalyst. The kind of partner who shows up, speaks truth, and drives clarity in chaos. I consider Mike one of the sharpest minds I know and one of the few people who consistently makes me better. If you’re a founder looking for real partnership—the kind that moves the needle—Mike is who you want in your foxhole.”
